Dionne Barber Artist

Membership Type:  Individual

I work as a freelance artist producing my own work; an important part of my practice is working with others; sharing my skills and facilitating others to express themselves through paint, drawing and sculpture. I has worked on lots of varied projects, focusing on engendering the work of others. I work and exhibit all around the country, keeping my work and projects fresh; the most important thing for me is for participants of my workshops to come away with a new and interesting experience. I love exploring ideas and giving others the skills and techniques to explore their own.

Helen makes one-off sculptural vessels, by working on ideas that originate from studies of seed pods and has previously based her work on a variety of natural forms. Such as the seeds of the Lotus flower, which create classical shapes similar to amphorae and other more native and familiar plants such as Dandelions and Poppies.

Helen uses a variety of making techniques such as coiling, slabs, press moulds, slumping and throwing.

Using Kilnformed & Cast Glass techniques Helen Slater creates unique figurative Glass pieces for gallery exhibition, both Nationally and Internationally.

In addition to this Helen also produces one off sculptural pieces to Public & Private commission.

Based in Oxfordshire, Helen Slater's Art draws inspiration from the figurative form and its perception within changing environments. By using a mixture of techniques similar to those used in bronze casting and some specially developed by Helen herself, through years

of research, she is able to produce stunning one off Art pieces.

My practice explores the mysterious, unfathomable and supernatural through multi-artform events and exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. I am particularly interested in the relationships between people, and between people and their environment, and how these are mediated by beliefs and supernatural or spiritual experiences.

My outdoor events are inspired by religious rites from various traditions, and aim to involve the audience as participants as much as possible, drawing them into a liminal space from where they can re-evaluate the Present and re-invent the Future.

In this context I undertake commissions to help design alternative weddings, namings, funerals and other sacred ceremonies.
