Following on from the success of Oxford's ‘Ethical Fashion Fest’ in March 2011, the O3 Gallery is set to curate a weekend of events designed to provoke thought about where clothes come from and whether they are ethically produced.

During Fairtrade Fortnight, the O3 Gallery has assembled a line-up of leading names to discuss the sustainability of fashion/design and whether there can ever be such things as ethical consumerism and ethical luxury.

TALK 1: Fairtrade Fashion: Weaving the Fabric of Society

In this session you will look at colour as an important element of composition. Through a series of exercises you will learn some of the properties of colour and how to use them to effect in your painting. You will refer to other artists" painting, work on studies and from your own sketches using acrylics (the session will include some collage work and so oils arenot suitable for this class).

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience. This can follow on from the 'Colour in Painting, Using a Limited Palette' course or can be done as a one off.

Create & decorate a simple bag using your old clothes. Vikki Lafford will show ways to create & decorate a new bag using unwanted items of clothing. Perfect for those items of clothing you just can't throw away yet never wear. You will need to bring a sewing machine, an item of clothing to use (anything you want) and scissors.

Materials not provided - Suitable for beginners and those with some experience

TUTOR: MICHELE WALLINGTON

Creating texture can add an extra dimension to your work. Artist Michele Wallington will demonstrateusing watercolour/acrylic paint and oil pastels to show you how to develop some textural effects. Students should be able to complete their own picture by the end of the session.
